Mono County authorities are investigating the death of a man in Coleville on Monday. The 61-year-old man's name is not being released yet, but deputies have a witness who said the man was at the Meadowcliff Lodge working as a sign installer when his partner saw him grab onto their work truck, take a deep breath and then collapse at about 11 a.m. A bystander was trying to revive the man using CPR when paramedics arrived, but it was unsuccessful.

Genoans decided to delay making a decision on new rental rates for the town buildings on Tuesday night. Prompted by complaints that the town was charging different groups different rates, a set of rates and discounts were presented for the town board's consideration. However, after learning that even with the discounts a group like Alcoholic's Anonymous, which rents the Town Church for $25 a month, would see its rate more than triple. The congregation which meets in the church would also see its monthly rate increase. Town Board members asked interim Town Manager Lisa Granahan to go back and massage the formula to the benefit of the two groups.

I hear there's a new publication coming to town. The Douglas Times is a weekly published by the Reno Gazette-Journal, according to the information they've been spreading around town. They say they will be publishing 8,000 copies and that the edition will come out on Fridays. It's been more than two years since the Gazette last pulled out of Carson Valley, when they eliminated their Carson-Douglas edition and folded news from both counties into their main section. Since then, they've come down for the occasional shooting or plane crash, but have been sadly silent on many of the issues that are important to Valley readers. We welcome the competition. They will find us as feisty as we've been all the previous times they've come down here.

Somehow I managed to grab the wrong agenda for the Gardnerville Town Board on Tuesday morning. The date and time of the meeting were right, as was the lead item, but the rest of the stuff was all from last month. My apologies to anyone who went needlessly and my thanks to the folks at the Gardnerville Water Co. for letting me know about the error.

Tonight, meeting week continues with Minden at 6 p.m. in the CVIC Hall and the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District at 7 p.m. The bear proof container folks are going to the Ranchos tonight. The presentation, which stars state wildlife biologist Carl Lackey and includes representatives of the county code enforcement and Douglas Disposal visited Genoa last night and is well worth attending.

Temperatures will cool down a little today as a weak low pressure system comes through and is blown back on its way. Winds will be blowing 13-16 mph with gusts up to 20 mph by the afternoon. The high is predicted to hit 59 with the low dropping just below freezing tonight.
