Shepherd of Sierra pastor to be ordained on Sunday



Norm Milz will be ordained and installed this coming Sunday at 4 p.m. as pastor of Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. He has served as vicar there for the past year.


Milz was born in Detroit, Mich. and attended Lutheran elementary and high school there. He graduated from Concordia University, Seward, Neb., in 1975 and received a master's degree in music from the University of Illinois in 1979. He taught for 21 years at two Lutheran schools in Illinois where he served as a teacher and principal.


In 1996, Milz, his wife Char and their two children, Rebekah and Nathan, moved to California where he served as principal of Prince of Peace Lutheran School in Fremont, Calif., for three years. After their time there, they moved to Lodi, Calif., where he served St. Peter Lutheran Church as director of music, worship and family ministry. From 2004 to May of 2006, Milz completed his studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.


Norm and Char Milz have been married for 26 years. Their daughter, Rebekah, is assistant in communications and promotion for the church extension fund of the California-Nevada-Hawaii district for the Lutheran church in Livermore, Calif. Their son, Nathan, has just completed his freshman year at Concordia University, Irvine, Calif.
