Faster than a second-grader?

Six students from Barb Jacobson's second-grade class received lunch at Subway and T-shirts for running at least 100 miles over the course of the year during recess at Jacks Valley Elementary School.

The 8-year-olds ran laps around the school grounds during the school year while their mileage was accounted for by yard duty personnel.

"We got marked on how many laps with a piece of paper," said Diego Silva, who ran a total of 100 miles. "Four laps is a mile."

The boys agreed the "world's fastest" was William Williams with Jordan Warren being the second-fastest runner.

"I just got 100 miles today," said William on June 12.

"It's easy for me and Will because all you do is run and walk," said Jordan, who also ran 100 miles. "We did it last year too."

Tyler Perrone accumulated the greatest amount by running 150 miles during the school year.

"If I ran 150 miles (at one time), I would be in Reno," said Tyler.

"I don't think so, buddy," said Zack Laningham. "It's 145 miles here to Hangtown."

Zack ran 105 miles and Bryan Harris ran 110 miles. Bryan said he ran every chance he could.

"I would run four or six laps at a time - after lunch and every recess," said Bryan.

"Two hundred miles is the goal for next year," said Jordan. "If we get to 200, maybe we'll get lunch and dessert."
