Valley business owner hurt in bicycle mishap

Carson Valley business owner Suzy Stockdale is recovering in the intensive care unit at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after being involved in a bicycle accident on Saturday.

Stockdale was on her way home from the Alpine County Death Ride at about 5:45 p.m. when she took a fall at Highway 88 and Foothill Road in Alpine County.

A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol said Stockdale couldn't remember much about the accident.

Stockdale was riding her bicycle home to Mackland after participating in the ride.

Stockdale Creative Office Manager Judy Samet said Tuesday a member of the Alta Alpina Cycling Club found her.

"She was still wearing her numbers," Samet said. "They brought down the Death Ride emergency truck to pick her up."

Stockdale is an avid bicyclist and has participated in the Death Ride for several years.

Samet said well-wishers should send notes to the office at 1650 North Lucerne St., Minden, in the Village Square building.

"She can't have visitors in the ICU anyway," Samet said. "Anyone who wants to send flowers or notes can bring them to the office and we'll make sure she gets them."

Stockdale is the area representative for the Smallwood Foundation, a charitable organization.

Stockdale Creative was founded in 1987. She was formerly advertising manager of Bently Nevada Corp. and promotions manager and an advertising manager for Gannett Newspapers, according to the company's Web site.

She holds a bachelor's degree in commercial advertising from Colorado State University.
