• Sentencing is set Aug. 20 for a 29-year-old Minden man who pleaded guilty Monday to unlawfully obtaining 186 prescriptions for thousands of painkillers from 81 doctors in two years. Page A3

• A new hotel and casino is being proposed for property near Sunridge on the east side of Highway 395. First approved in 1987, a Las Vegas firm is proposing a 300-room hotel near Sunridge Drive in northern Carson Valley. Page A8

• A new antique store has opened in downtown Gardnerville next door to the old Ritchford. Candy Stewart hopes to take advantage of Gardnerville's reputation as an antique mecca. Page A8

• Antique treasures and family heirlooms may be appraised for $5 per item at the Genoa Antique Show and Sale Saturday and Sunday at Genoa Town Hall. Proceeds for the event benefit the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. Page B1

• The Douglas County Fairgrounds hosted the opening two rounds of the Big Valley Honda Triple Crown of Night Motocross over the weekend. Twenty-seven athletes from the area placed in the top three in their events. Page C1
