The R-C Morning Report

New planning commissioner Lawrence Howell, will join newly reappointed planners Bob Conner, Rick Ross and the rest of the panel for their first meeting 1 p.m. Tuesday. Planning commissioners will be asked to make a report on the Valley Bar after they were overruled by Douglas County commissioners. Also on their agenda is a request by Sierra Nevada Power Co. to erect an 80-foot lattice tower at its Muller Lane substation to accommodate communications equipment.

One person who was not reappointed last week was Young At Heart President and former Senior Advisory Council member Paul "Where's the new Senior Center" Lockwood. Paul's a vocal critic of the county's handling of the senior center and I have a feeling we'll be hearing from him on this issue for a long time to come.

Genoa is looking for a new town board member after Jack Petit moved out of town after being elected last year.

To be on the town board, you have to actually live inside the boundaries of the town. Genoa Lakes, Centennial Drive and other residents living on the fringe (which includes yours truly) need not apply. For information, call the town at 782-TOWN.

The roads and weather appear clear today, with some fog on the menu for this morning's commute. It doesn't appear too think in the Valley.

The National Weather Service issued a statement at 4 a.m. this morning predicting that temperatures will hit the floor and stick late this week. There's a strong cold front heading this way and should arrive by Wednesday followed by a second shot of Arctic air on Thursday night. High temperatures should be below freezing through the weekend. While the forecasters won't commit to snow, they say if there is any, expect highs in the teens. While there may be moisture, there will definitely be wind, and they say the wind chill will be 0-10 degrees in the Valleys. Brrr.
