Debaters seek volunteer judges

The Douglas High School Speech and Debate Team will be hosting the annual Sagebrush League Tournament today and Saturday.

More than 200 students from 18 high schools in Northern Nevada will compete in both speaking and debating events over the two days. The team is reliant upon the time and energy of volunteers to make the event a success.

The judging schedule for two days of events has been divided into blocks of time.

The team will provide snacks and beverages, as well as lunch and dinner, for judges. There will be high school students or adults who will be able to watch children during the tournament if there is a need for baby-sitting services.

Speech events are 3-6 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today at Douglas High School.

Debate events are 8 a.m. until noon, noon to 4 p.m. and 4 - 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The public is invited to an awards ceremony for individual events planned for 5 p.m. Saturday.
