Douglas takes fifth at Science Bowl

The Douglas High School came out fifth out of the 32 teams from Nevada, Utah and California competing in Nevada's Regional Science Bowl Feb. 10 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

"They had a legitimate shot at winning it all," said advisor Larry Lippmann. "The boys did great, I'm really proud of them. It was a very successful and good trip."

The Douglas team, Tommy Kelly, Bradley Neddenriep, Marshall Tuinier, Kirby Wigton and David Williams, receive $500 as the fifth-place winners.

The Douglas bowl team won the first two rounds in the double elimination competition, scoring 80-0 in the first round and winning by just by two points in the second.

The team that eventually won the regional bowl was one of the teams from Reno High School. Reno won $2,000 and goes to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., in April.
