The R-C Morning Report

The opening of the Nevada Legislature officially begins at noon today with ceremonies in both the Senate and Assembly chambers. From that minute forward, the clock is ticking and legislators must complete their business by June 4. With nearly 1,100 bill draft requests and 144 pre-filed bills, lawmakers are going to have a lot on their hands in the coming months.

It's somehow appropriate that the Legislature kicks off meeting week, this week. In Carson Valley, the town boards of Genoa and Gardnerville meet Tuesday night and the Minden Town Board and Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District meet Wednesday night. I'll have more on those meetings as they come up to bat.

The ridge of high pressure that has locked down the weather in the Carson Valley is forecast to break down later this week, according to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service. A series of fast-moving systems will begin to enter Western Nevada starting late Wednesday with the chance of several inches of rain Thursday through Sunday. The National Weather Service is predicting that snow levels will stay high, with heavy snow affecting only the high Sierra. It has been so dry that chances of flooding are slim, but stay tuned.
