Youth, mentors needed for historical society's Chautauqua program

Young Chautauquans start their ninth year with an informational meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville.

Students from grades 4 through 12 are accepted from private, public and home schooling programs. Young Chautauqua offers an opportunity for students interested in history, drama and expanding their public speaking talents.

Group leaders are needed to help with mentoring. Leaders volunteer approximately 45 hours of time between January and June.

Everyone has a good time and leaders truly enjoy helping our youth to learn and grow in developing their own special abilities.

Actual sessions with the youth start Jan. 22 and continue every other week until June 10. "Chautauqua in the Park" will be held on June 18 and 19 where the students perform in Mormon State Park in Genoa.

The Douglas County Historical Society Young Chautauqua program is popular with people in the community calling year round asking for them to perform.

We urge you to encourage any children you know to participate in Young Chautauqua.
