Highway 88 is closed between Silver Lake and Kirkwood for avalance control. According to Safe Travel USA, chains are mandatory to get to that point. Chains are also mandatory over Highway 50 and Interstate 80 and pretty much all points in between.
Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 395 between Washoe Hill and the Mount Rose junction. Chains or snow tires are also required on Highway 395 south of Walker.
