Girls' Basketball: Coleville girls split four at Comstock

The Coleville girls' basketball team came out of the Comstock Classic Tournament held in Virginia City over the weekend with two wins in four tries.

The Lady Wolves opened the tournament Thursday with a 37-26 victory over Loyalton.

Forced to skip last weekend's Eureka Tournament because of snow, Coleville was a little rusty on offense turning the ball over 22 times and shooting only 29 percent from the field.

Senior guard Amara Rowley scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 12 steals to lead the Wolves.

Junior guard Kassie Pemberton added seven points and seven rebounds and Kimberly Torley had four points to go with nine rebounds in the victory.

Friday, the Wolves opened with a 48-25 loss to Yerington and beat Whittell 50-34.

Against Yerington, Rowley once again led the way with 14 points and nine steals.

Skyler Isbell and Molly Garcia each had four points for the Lady Wolves.

Against Whittell, Coleville got 17 points apiece from Torley and Rowley.

Kymberlee Curti added six points and Isbell and Garcia each added four points.

Saturday the process of playing four games in three days began to take its toll as Coleville dropped a 40-27 decision to Wells.

The Wolves suffered through a 23 percent night from the field.

Rowley continued her outstanding play, leading Coleville with 17 points and nine rebounds. Garcia also turned in a solid game contributing five points and seven rebounds.

"I was pretty happy with the overall play of our team this weekend," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "We showed a lot of heart against a very tough Yerington team and finally, after losing in two earlier tries, found a way to beat Whittell.

"With the exception of Amara who is playing outstanding basketball, we are still struggling for consistency on offense but I am starting to see positive signs from the rest of the girls. We are doing a very good job on the boards despite having no one over 5-8 on this year's team."

The Lady Wolves are schedule to host Mineral County Tuesday before taking a two-week break.
