Today meeting week kicks off with the Gardnerville Town Board, 4:30 p.m. in the town offices, 1407 Highway 395. On the agenda is a design review for the addition of a sports bar to the Pizza Barn and the rehearing of a zoning map request for the Waterloo Center.

Genoans meet tonight to pick a new town manager after a year contracting with the county for those services. Three candidates are up for the job. Town board members spoke with them last Monday, but decided to delay their decision while they checked references. The Genoa Town Board meets 7 p.m. in the town offices.

The new Genoa manager will get a taste of what the job is going to be like, because next on the town agenda are three items seeking to limit booths for Candy Dance to those juried by the town.

The special weather statement du jour from the National Weather Service is reporting a chance that the first significant winter storm of the year may be headed this way. There's an area of low pressure which should arrive on the coast of California late Thursday. If it hits the central California coast, there may be snow in the Sierra. If it veers north or south, we get nothing. If it comes in too fast, the mountains will shred it and all we get is the wind.
