Cruisers event

Carson Valley has been celebrating American music, food and especially cars every August thanks to the Valley Cruisers.

The car club held their 20th annual Main Street Event on Aug. 17-19 that featured dinner, dancing and cars in downtown Minden on Friday. The show moved to Lampe Park on Saturday and Sunday where there cars were bought and sold at the car corral, there was more music, more food and 218 registered cars on display.

A car and fashion show was featured on Saturday in honor of Valley Cruisers' 20th anniversary. Cars in the fashion show were coordinated with clothing and music from 1900 to 1970. Models were dressed as characters such as Bonnie and Clyde, Marilyn Monroe, Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Jimi Hendrix.

Participants in the car events were from California and Oregon but most were from Carson Valley. Resident Albert Jones was one of the recipients of the 95 various trophies awarded by the Valley Cruisers.

"The show is well organized and I wouldn't miss it," said Jones, owner of a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino. "It took me eight years to restore my Chevy and this was my first-time win. It's a great hobby and the whole family is involved."

Rudy and Sharon Tee are the owners of an award-winning 1958 Corvette they spent five years restoring.

"The Chevy has won approximately 10 awards," said Rudy Tee. "The great thing is my wife is just as involved as I am."

Proceeds from the annual event supports several Douglas County programs for children: the Family Support Council, Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Douglas High School automotive program, Austin's House, City of Refuge, search and rescue, Project Santa Claus and Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
