Structures threatened by Pine Nut fire

Air tankers, a helicopter and seven engines were on the scene of a four-acre wildland fire which broke out at 5 p.m. on Friday at 2960 Pine Nut Road, a home owned by Paul Twichell.

According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden, other structures were threatened and the fire was fueled by heavy brush and southwest winds.

Officials closed off Pine Nut Road at Highway 395 to allow emergency vehicles and home owners into the remote area near the Douglas County Landfill and fairgrounds.

Forty-five firefighters, sheriff's deputies and Search and Rescue personnel also responded to the blaze.

Friday's fire was the second in four days. Seventy acres burned near the old power dam south of Gardnerville on Tuesday.
