Camera buffs bloom at photo club meeting

A close-up picture of an ice plant blooming on a rock won a first-place ribbon for Lynda Chen'e in the Carson Valley Photo Club's monthly competition.

The digital photo, taken at Pistol River, Ore., features bright yellow blooms with fiery red stalks and light green leaves, all contrasting to the dark rock.

The theme for this month's contest was flowers.

Second place went to club member Kathy Port. It was a close-up of a blazing star blooming near Virginia City. She titled her winning photograph "Comstock Gold."

Doug Dill took third place with "Wet Sunflower," a photo of a sunflower blossom misted with water against a background of blurred water droplets sprayed from a hose.

Dill was also the featured speaker, and lectured about legal issues facing photographers.

The winning photos are on display at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden, where the club meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
