Democratic 'mockus' comes to Douglas

Douglas County residents are invited to participate in a "mock caucus" Thursday as part of a statewide effort by the Nevada Democratic Party to educate Nevadans on the Jan. 19, 2008, presidential caucuses.

The 'mockus' will be held 8 p.m. at 1662 Highway 395, Suite 105, in Minden.

Nevada has held caucuses for decades, but this is the first time the Nevada caucuses will be the second in the nation - after the Jan. 14 Iowa caucuses and early enough to have an major impact on the next Democratic presidential nominee.

The Nevada Democratic Party will hold "mockuses" Ð mock caucuses Ð around the state through Jan. 19 to help educate Nevadans on the caucus process, which is different than a primary.

In each "mockus," participants will caucus for their favorite type of pizza, instead of their favorite presidential candidate.

The mockus is open to the media and the public.

Successful mock caucuses have been recently held in other rural areas, including Carson City, Fernley, Zephyr Cove, Pahrump, Ely, Eureka, Winnemucca, Elko and Alamo.
