Reed tops Douglas baseball in 8 innings

After a string of 10 consecutive wins at home dating back to the 2006 regular season finale, the Douglas baseball team finally met its match.

Reed took a 3-2 victory in eight innings after Casey Yocum singled to bring Kyle Wood across to hand the Tigers the loss.

Douglas, which had already come back to win three games at home in the final innings this season, appeared ready to do so again with two on and no outs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Tigers couldn't convert, allowing Reed one more crack at the plate.

Yocum scored the tying run in the top of the seventh after John Pelino singled him home.

Prior to that, Douglas had been nursing a 2-1 lead thanks to Cory Eilers and Phil Mannelly each hitting an RBI double.

Eilers finished with two hits in the game while Mannelly, Troy Torres and Jeff White each had one.

Severin Nobriga pitched two shutout innings to start the game, striking out one and walking one and Adam Burnside pitched the third and fourth with two strikeouts and a walk.

Pat Lahlum struck out one in three innings of relief and Tyler Hoelzen struck out two and walked one in the eighth.

Douglas dropped to 20-7 overall on the year.
