Garden Cemetery cleanup is Saturday

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is one of the nationwide sponsors of Join Hands Day.

The local chapter of Thrivent along with the Garden Cemetery Association will be working to repair and spruce up the grave sites of old timers who no longer have any relatives living in the area. Cemetery association members and their families are invited and encouraged to come and work on their own family lots.

Road base and some other rock will be provided by Thrivent. Some tools and equipment will be available. There are areas of the road in the cemetery that need a layer of base and it takes some volunteers to spread that around.

The Join Hands Day idea is youth and adults working together. The Dumpster has recently been repaired and now it needs a coat of paint. Children are invited to bring a paint brush and have some fun. One of the child-oriented activities that was a hit last year was sifting the rock and sand to separate for fixing up some of the plots.

Work begins around 9:30 a.m. on May 5. The morning will conclude with lunch at noon.

The Garden Cemetery is located at the corner of Douglas Avenue and Cemetery Street in Gardnerville. Information, call Linda Reid at 782-8210.
