Crosswalk sting planned for throughout county

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol will be working a joint traffic safety detail throughout Douglas County.

The weeklong enforcement event will begin Saturday.

The specialized enforcement detail is made possible by a grant from the Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety. The officers working this enforcement detail will be concentrating their efforts on drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and driving under the influence violations.

Nevada traffic laws require that the driver of a motor vehicle must yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

A minimum fine of $91 may be levied against any driver who fails to yield, according to Sgt. Tom Mezzetta of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Drivers are reminded to use extreme caution when approaching another vehicle stopped in the roadway, especially if a crosswalk is located nearby.
