Recycled art show part of summer energy roundup

Staff Reports

A recycled art show will be part of the first Sustainable Living and Renewable Energy Roundup to be held Aug. 10 -12.

The roundup is sponsored by several Douglas County organizations, and businesses such as: Bently Nevada, the Douglas County Building Industry Association, University of Nevada, Reno, Douglas County Cooperative Extension, Western Nevada College, and Bently Bio Fuels and is a Sunrise Sustainable Resources group event.

The art show is an exhibit and sale of art, practical items and fashion accessories created from used, surplus or found materials that were originally manufactured and would normally be thrown away.

There is no entry fee for any participant.

Artists should submit a completed entry form with a photo of the work or work in progress by July 13 to SLRE Roundup Recycled Art Show, PO Box 3025, Gardnerville, NV, 89410.

Entries must be made from recycled materials. Recycled in this context is described as elements that were originally manufactured and would normally be thrown away. The only new items allowed for construction of art pieces include construction materials such as paint, glue, tape, screws and nails.

Entrants must bring their own equipment and supplies for displaying the art piece.

Each artist can decide whether or not to participate in the silent auction and will indicate their choice on the entry form. Upon arriving, each entry will be numbered and tagged accordingly.

If an artist chooses to include their work in the silent auction, 50 percent of the amount donated will benefit the Carson Valley Arts Council building restoration fund with the balance given to the 2008 SLRE Roundup.

For more information, contact Constance Alexander at 267-2850 or e-mail calexa61@gbis.com. Organizers reserve the right to refuse entries that are deemed unsuitable.
