Deputies find blood-drenched car during DUI stop

A Carson City woman, whose passenger seat was drenched in blood, was arrested April 8 for driving under the influence with a prior conviction.

Judi Kristin Marcum, 23, was stopped early Sunday near the intersection of highways 88 and 395 after a motorist reported her vehicle was driving erratically.

Deputies said the entire passenger side of the vehicle was badly damaged from the front to rear bumper.

Despite her bloodshot eyes, Marcum said she was not intoxicated and blamed her erratic driving on bipolar medication.

Her preliminary blood-alcohol content measured .158, nearly twice the legal driving limit of .08.

When deputies opened the passenger side door to inventory the vehicle, they discovered a pool of blood and mucus matter that measured the size of a head if the face was against the car seat. More blood had pooled on the floorboard behind the driver's seat.

Deputies said Marcum's purse also was covered in blood.

She reportedly told deputies her boyfriend, who was not in the vehicle, had been involved in an altercation earlier that night in Carson City.

Marcum was charged with driving under the influence with one prior, driving under the influence with .08 or greater blood-alcohol content and open container for a 24-ounce can of malt liquor.

Marcum is to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.
