Woman survives Tahoe plane crash

A woman who walked away from the wreckage of a plane crash that left one dead near Round Lake was discovered this afternoon and transported to the hospital by helicopter, authorities said.The 35-year-old woman was discovered at around 12:15 p.m., authorities said. She confirmed there was only herself and the deceased person onboard the aircraft. Authorities are investigating the small private plane crash south of Round Lake at 8,000 feet, according to El Dorado County Sheriff's Lt. Les Lovell.The Reno-Tahoe International Airport received a beacon from a downed plane around 8 p.m. Sunday, Lovell said. Search crews with Alpine County Sheriff's Department along with El Dorado County Sheriff's Department were dispatched. The wreckage was spotted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter around 8 this morning, Lovell said.Lovell said information is still being collected regarding the plane's flight path and the person killed. Authorities said the plane left from the Lake Tahoe Airport after refueling.Rick Jenkins, Lake Tahoe Airport manager, heard of the crash from the Alpine County Sheriff's Department and checked the Lake Tahoe Airport's digital recorder. Trajen, the flight base operator that fuels the planes out of the city airport, also didn't note any strange activity.
