Comma Concerts brings traditional music icon to Gardnerville Oct. 6

In a continuing effort to bring world-class musicians to Carson Valley, promoter Doug Reynolds' Comma Concerts series will present its first area indoor show on Oct. 6 at Shady Grove Coffee Co. Performing that night will be one of the leading figures of "old-style Americana music," singer and multi-instrumentalist Bruce Molsky. Tickets are $15 and are available online at www.CommaConcerts.com or at Shady Grove. Due to seating restrictions, there are only 65 tickets available for the show.

The popular monthly Comma Concerts series in Carson City is now in its third year, and two outdoor shows this summer in Minden Village drew several hundred attendees. According to Reynolds, this ticketed, indoor concert is to determine whether live music fans in Douglas County would like to have a regular concert series of their own here in the Valley.

One of the most influential fiddlers of his generation, Molsky is also a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer. Molsky's intimate, relaxed performance style engages and illuminates listeners. His high-spirited music melds the old mountain sounds of Appalachia, the power of blues and intricacies of traditional African music with Scandinavian, Balkan and Celtic impressions.

Molsky's band, Fiddlers 4 with Darol Anger & Michael Doucet, was a 2003 Grammy nominee. Molsky's new group, Highland, Heath & Holler, starts its first tour this fall and is being billed as "Celtic Music's Journey to Appalachia." Known for his collaborations with musicians of other cultures, Molsky is also a member of Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny's highly acclaimed project, Mozaik, and he has also appeared as a guest artist on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion."

Molsky's solo concerts and CD recordings have become staples for fans of American traditional and world music everywhere. Shady Grove Coffee Co. is located at 1411 Highway 395, next door to the Town of Gardnerville offices. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with music from approximately 7-9 p.m.
