Tiger volleyball rolls over North Valleys



Coming once again off a tough five-game loss, the Douglas volleyball team completely dismanteled its next opponent, this time cruising past North Valleys in three games at Douglas High Tuesday night.


The Lady Tigers' serving was the strongest its been so far this season as they recorded 15 aces in the match, winning 25-14, 25-19, 25-10.


Jessica Waggoner recorded 11 kills and seven blocks to lead the Tigers and Megan Mitchell dished out 29 assists to go with three kills, one block and three aces.


Bonnie Matheson had four aces and Alyssa Todd, Megan Myers and Ali Witteman each had two aces. Jennifer Stice had the remaining ace.

The Tiger attack was powerful and efficient, getting nine kills from Taryn Williams, five from Alex Risko, four from Bridget Maestretti, four from Myers and three from Stice.


Maestretti also had four blocks in the win.


Douglas never trailed and simply outmatched the Panthers in the final game, getting its first five five points off aces and kills and the next five off North Valleys' errors.


Douglas (12-6, 2-1 Sierra League), currently ranked No. 5 in the region traveled to South Tahoe Thursday night. Results of that match will be in Sunday's R-C.




JV

The junior varsity squad beat North Valleys 25-20, 25-14 with standout play from Jourdan Burke, who had eight kills.


Edna Meza stepped up and served seven in a row to help the team pull out in the lead and win the first game.


She also had four kills in the match.


Mysta Townsell served 11 points in a row in the second game. Lindsay McKay played outstanding defense.


Jordan Marsh had 24 assists and Chloe Trudell had 22 assists that helped their team to win.



FRESHMEN


Douglas beat North Valleys 25-7, 25-10 with great serving from Lauren Christensen, who served nine points in a row.


The team as a whole played great defense and basically controlled the entire match.


The junior varsity and freshman teams are undefeated in league play.


Douglas JV is 10-0 and the freshman are 8-1.
