Westerly winds are blowing smoke from the Ralston fire in Foresthill has blown over the Sierra and into the Carson Valley.

The 6,780 fire is about 35 percent controlled, but with high winds expected in the next few days, firefighters are racing the clock to get it out.

The fire sta5rted in the bottom of the Middle Fork of the American River on Sept. 5 and has been a handful for firefighters. A weather inversion kept smoke in the canyons making firefighting from the air difficult.
