Music, food, crafts, sunshine

The 22nd annual Minden Arts and Crafts Street Celebration has come to a close after offering a variety of arts, crafts, food and toe-tapping entertainment for all who attended the event. Mild temperatures and brilliant blue skies added to the enjoyment of both days, Sept. 9 and 10.

Attendees were able to view the wares of about 110 crafters and taste the food offered by vendors who came from all over the West.

People sat on bales of hay or danced to the music of the 1960s-70s played live by the Sound Bytes on the corner of Fourth Street and Esmeralda Avenue.

"I think the event went really great," said Roxanne Stangle, owner of Tumblewinds and one of the event coordinators. "The vendors seemed very happy and everyone commented on the new addition of the art gallery displays (in the CVIC Hall). I think people were just out enjoying the great weather and there were many wonderful comments about the entertainment."

Stangle estimated the event was attended by 2,000-2,500 people.

The Minden businesses have planned another holiday event which will run Dec. 1-9 when the Town of Minden, beginning with the Parade of Lights, will have a Christmas Street Festival, patterned after an old-fashioned German Christmas market.

During this holiday event, every evening on Esmeralda Avenue there will be a variety of music and crafts. Plan to wander down the avenue, enjoy hot ciders, wine or beer and food while shopping for crafts and Christmas presents.
