Football: Coleville picks up first win

The young Coleville Wolves football team picked up their first win of the season with an impressive 30-6 victory over the visiting Owyhee Braves.

"I thought that our offensive line played much better today and for the most part really controlled a much bigger Owyhee ine," Coleville coach Will Sandy said.

The Wolves scored on their first drive of the game when freshman quarterback Jason Peters hit trevor Anderson with a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Mark Brown caught the conversion pass to give Coleville an 8-0 lead.

Anderson and Peters hooked up again in the second quarter on a 44-yard pass for the Wolves' second score of the day.

Anderson caught the conversion pass to put the Wolves up 16-6.

Peters scored on a three-yard run with 40 seconds left in the first half and Javier Pace caught the conversion pass to give the Wolves a comfortable 22-6 halftime lead.

Jason Peters completed Coleville's scoring for the day when he rushed for a second three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

For the day, Peters led the Wolves with 139 yards rushing and 100 yards passing. Anderson caught four passes for 95 yards and also rushed for 11 yards.

Fullback Matt Carothers added 46 rushing yards in returning from last week's illness.

Defensively, Coleville was led by Carothers with three solo tackles and 16 assists and Sean Sherlock with three solos and 14 assists.

Will Goode had 14 assists and Erik Buehrle had one solo and six assists. The Wolves' defense also forced three turnovers on the day.

"I was pretty happy with our overall defensive effort," Sandy said. "But, we made some big mistakes that fortunately Owyhee wasn't able to capitalize on.

"We committed way too many penalties and we have to work hard to correct this situation before Saturday's home game against district rival Lee Vining."

Kickoff is a 1 p.m. Saturday at Coleville High School.
