Incumbency: A candidate for office

Education: University of Nevada, Las Vegas degree in business finance and law degree from the University of San Diego. UNLV's first Rhodes Scholar candidate.

Record of service: Tarkanian Basketball Academy, a non profit company that he founded with his father.

Tarkanian has served on numerous boards and commissions including the Nevada Taxicab Authority.

Platform:

Tarkanian is the only candidate who is running on a complete campaign platform. He has issued position papers on corporate law, securities law, campaign finance reform, ethics and election law. He believes an informed electorate is the best defense against corruption in government. He has proposed requiring quarterly contribution and expense reports with daily reporting of contributions during the last month of any election. In addition Tarkanian would require full disclosure of what is known as "bundling" of contributions. All this information would be available on searchable databases on the Internet.

His preeminent issue is a requirement to show Proof of Citizenship before you may register to vote and a requirement to show Photo ID when you cast your ballot. He unveiled this proposal to counter voter fraud when he announced his candidacy in December 2005. Under this common sense proposal you would need the same paperwork to register to vote that you supply when you apply for a Nevada driver's license. Under current law you must prove you are a U.S. citizen or in the U.S. legally to obtain a driver's license. No other candidate endorses this proposal or has submitted one of their own. Tarkanian is adamant in protecting the rights of legal citizens to register to vote and to insure clean and fair elections.
