Thorson faring well on sprint circuit



Carson Valley fifth-grader Tanner Thorson has been enjoying a solid season on the Red Bluff Outlaws Box Stock class circuit through the first four races.


Thorson, who attends Minden Elementary School in Mr. Harvey's class, has been among the top finishers every week.


In the season-opener in late October, Thorson was the fastest qualifier with a 10.589 lap time. He took third in his heat race and second in the main event.


He also started at the back of the Trophy Dash and finished fourth.


On Nov. 4, Thorson pulled off a complete sweep, winning his heat, the main event and the Trophy Dash.


On Nov. 11, he was again the fastest qualifer with a 10.232 lap time and took first in his heat. He finished second in the main event.


Most recently, he took second in the main event, won his heat and turned in the top time in qualifying. He also took second in the Trophy Dash.


Thorson currently leads the Box Stock class in season points with 687, which represents a 30-point lead over his nearest competition.


He is racing a new Subaru Box Stock this season as he missed the age cutoff for the 250cc Outlaw Sprint Kart class by 37 days.


Last year, Thorson finished fifth in points in the Box Stock class and raced all summer at Cycleland Speedway in Chico, Calif.


He is sponsored by Wheeler Screen Printing, Mac Signs, Superior Collision Center, Napa Auto Parts - all of Gardnerville - RWW Fabrication of Sparks and QRC Karts in Red Bluff, Calif.
