Key Club donations taken at Turkey Bingo

Along with the Carson Valley Kiwanis Club Turkey Bingo on Saturday, about 20 Douglas High School Key Club members will be holding a fundraiser of their own, and they are looking for donations.

Key Club members will be having a silent auction that will benefit children in Uganda, Africa, through an organization called Building Tomorrow.

"We're kind of like piggybacking on the Turkey Bingo and holding a silent auction," said Key Club historian Matt Gilkerson.

The Key Club has helped out at Turkey Bingo every year, but this year members decided to do some fundraising of their own on the side. Gilkerson said they found out about the non-profit initiative aimed at giving students the chance to raise funds and awareness for infrastructure projects benefiting orphans impacted by HIV/AIDS. Visit www.buildingtomorrow.org for more information on the organization.

"We originally wanted to do this for Building Tomorrow," said Gilkerson. "We saw this article (in Keynoter magazine) about building schools over there in Kampala (Uganda). We'd like to donate to help get them school supplies."

Even though time is running out, the Key Club is looking for donations from businesses and individuals for the silent auction, such as items and gift certificates.

For information on how to donate, e-mail parent adviser Vanessa Ozolins at vozolins@dcsd.k12.nv.us or call 782-5136.

The Carson Valley Kiwanis Club Turkey Bingo takes place Saturday at the CVIC Hall, Esmeralda Avenue in Minden. Early bird games begin at 3 p.m. and the regular session begins at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available at the snack bar.
