The Fourth Annual Jacks Valley Elementary School Chess Tournament is 4-9 p.m. May 12. The Tournament is open to all J.V.E.S. students (all grades). You do not need to be an expert to enter, but you do need to know how to play. The tournament will be run as a series of elimination matches with consolation matches for players who do not win. Matches will be thirty minutes maximum. In the absence of a checkmate, winners will be selected based upon a point total at the end of the 30-minute match. We will not recognize stalemates as ties.
Players will compete in two divisions: "junior division" for grades kindergarten through third and "senior division" for grades fourth through sixth. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.
To play in the tournament, fill out an application and turn it in to Mr. Rosenbloom (Room 16) sometime today. You may not enter the night of the tournament.
There will be pizza and soft drinks available for purchase at the tournament.
We also need parent volunteers to function as officials at the tournament. If you are available and interested, please contact Mr. Rosenbloom at 266-4044 or 267-3267.
