Snow tires, chains required on Kingsbury

Road controls were in effect on Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 through Douglas County as the last of a series of winter storms arrived this morning.

Chains or snow tires are required on the grade from five miles up from Foothill Road to Highway 50. The same restrictions are in effect on Highway 50 from the junction with Highway 395 in Carson City to South Lake Tahoe. No road controls are reported on Highways 395 or 88 in Carson Valley.

About an inch of snow has fallen on the west side of Carson Valley at 6:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory through 6 p.m. today with snow accumulations expected to range up to 3 inches in the Valleys.

Winds will range from 17 mph to 35 mph.

A slow moving winter storm will travel through the Valley today. The weather service is expecting snowfall to end north of Highway 50 by late afternoon. South of Highway 50, snow will continue through the evening. Gusty winds will reduce visibility make driving difficult.
