Carson/Douglas rodeo enjoying early success

The Carson/Douglas High School rodeo club is gearing up for its rodeo April 8 and 9 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Cutting events will be at the Corley Ranch on April 7 at 2 p.m.

The Settlemeyer Ranch has offered to donate the cattle needed for the cutting. Carson/Douglas' nine team members have been practicing throughout the winter in preparation for the season.

The team needs to raise $17,000 to put on their rodeo and their current fundraiser is raffle tickets for a quarter of all-natural Angus beef raised in Carson Valley.

Judy Dreyer won last year's beef. The team is also selling event sponsorships, vinyl signs and program advertising. The team also needs enough hay donated to feed the stock needed for the rodeo.

Carson/Douglas competed in its first rodeo of the season last weekend in Las Vegas.

Douglas' Brianna Nalder took first in the barrels on Saturday with a score of 18.113 and Alyce Kugler took third in the poles with a score of 21.577.

Kugler tied for sixth in girls' cutting Saturday and then tied for ninth Sunday. Nalder took eighth in barrels on Sunday.
