A memorial service for former Douglas County commission chairman Dave Pumphrey, 64, is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno.

Pumphrey, who served on the county commission from 1989 to 1996, died at Washoe Medical Center, from injuries he sustained in a hit and run bicycle accident on July 20, his wife Patsy said.

Pumphrey had moved to Reno from Gardnerville five years ago. He was an avid bicyclist and skier, who kept on riding despite knee surgery in March.

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 100 Island Ave., in downtown Reno.

A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Minden Park for Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen who died July 26.

Jacobsen, who served 40 years in the Nevada Legislature, died at his Minden residence. He was 85.

The service is open to the public.

It will be cooler today and breezy with the high temperature predicted to hit 80 degrees and winds blowing at between 17 and 29 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Despite two days of red flag warnings, the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports no wildfires burning on the East Slope.
