Firefighters plan tribute to Jacobsen

The East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts are inviting fire departments from across the state to participate in Friday's memorial service in Minden for State Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen.

Jacobsen died July 26 at his residence. He was 85.

"The East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts, on behalf of the Douglas County Engine Co., would like to extend a formal invitation to all fire departments in the State of Nevada to celebrate the life of a special individual who meant a great deal to the fire service for over 50 years," said Bobby Wartgow, deputy chief.

Jacobsen was a member of the volunteer fire department for more than 50 years and worked for passage of legislation on behalf of firefighters and emergency personnel during his four decades in the Nevada Legislature.

The service is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Minden Park at the corner of Sixth Street and Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.

Departments bringing fire apparatus and uniformed personnel should arrive by 9 a.m. for staging.

Wartgow asked that departments let the district know if they are participating.

He can be reached at 782-9040.

A memorial fund in Jacobsen's name has been set up at: Douglas County Fire Museum, in care of East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts, PO Box 218, Minden, NV 89423.
