Douglas takes honors at Bishop Tri-County Fair

On July 12-16, the Bishop Tri-County Fair took place and the Douglas County 4-H livestock clubs and the FFA livestock club were there.

Our members showed their beef and sheep and received many awards. The members include Kyle Martinez, Shannon Martinez (FFA), Skyler Zulian, Jamie Greer, Brian Hoskin (FFA), Cheyenne Bidart, Jessa Gansberg, Anna Lekumberry, Caitlyn Bidart and Bailey Gansberg.

Our senior sheep members took a lot of top honors that showed all of their years of hard work in 4-H and FFA. Skyler Zulian won Grand Champion ewe over all other lambs and ewes at the show. She also won first place in the spring ewe class. Kyle Martinez won Reserve Grand Champion in the Market Lamb Division. Shannon Martinez won Grand Champion with her FFA lamb in the Market Class. Brian Hoskin placed third in his Market class and fourth in the Showmanship Class.

Our Junior Sheep members also did a great job showing their animals. Cheyenne Bidart placed first in Showmanship and was moved up to the intermediate class where she placed third. She also showed her Market lamb and took fourth place and her breeding spring ewe and took second place. Anna Lekumberry placed seventh in the Showmanship Class. Jessa Gansberg was in the Junior Beef Division and won first place in the Market Class.

Jamie and Skyler both showed beef in the Senior Division. Skyler won Reserve Grand Champion and Jamie placed third in Showmanship. Skyler also won Reserve Grand Champion in the Market Class and Jamie won third place in Market Class.

Jessa and Bailey entered the costume contest with their lambs. Jessa was a runaway bride and Bailey was a rapper. They both had fun.

All of the 4-H and FFA members participated in the judging contest. They all judged beef, sheep and swine. Jamie placed first in the senior division and Bailey placed second in the junior division.

In the Round Robin Class, Shannon placed third in the FFA Senior category and Skyler placed first in the 4-H Senior category.

In the Cloverbud Division, Bailey placed first and won a trophy and a ribbon, Caitlyn placed fourth and won a ribbon.

We would like to thank the Bishop community for their tremendous support at the Fair and auction. We would also like to thank our great 4-H and FFA leaders for teaching us all about taking care of our animals and how to show them.

We all had a great time.
