Happening at the senior center

On Sunday, Young At Heart will be having their monthly bingo. Doors open at noon. Early bird games start at 1 p.m. and regular games at 1:30 p.m. Must be 21 years or older to play. Progressive for July is $450 on 55 numbers ... the pot increases by $50 each month and 1 number if not won. The game continues for black-out for one half of the take for the special progressive game. Wednesday


n Watercolor class will be held at the Douglas County Senior Center by Lada Trimble on Wednesday. Cost is $15 per class which includes all materials and a completed picture to take home. Call artist Trimble for more information: 882-6061.


n On Wednesday, the Douglas County Senior Center will be having their second YAH "U-Pick-It Raffle" in the Center's lobby.


"This is like a garage sale, but items are raffled off instead of sold outright and is a lot more fun," said Esther Hildebrand, U-Pick-It chairman.


Ticket sales will start at 9 a.m. Drawings will start at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $1 each; $5 for 6 tickets; and $10 for 13 tickets. If you have a donation for the raffle, call Hildebrand at the center, 783-6455.


July 22


The Douglas County Senior Center members are planning a hiking trip to Cascade Falls, which is an easy hike of 0.7 mile one way with an 80-foot elevation gain.


"It's a beautiful hike that you won't want to miss," said Hildebrand, organizer of the hike.


"We will depart at 8 a.m. from the senior center. Make sure to bring water, lunch and good walking shoes."


The cost is $1 for transportation. Seats are limited. Details: 783-6455


July 24


The Green Thumb Garden Club which meets at the Douglas County Senior Center will have their next meeting at 10 a.m. on July 24 in the ceramic room. This month's topic is "Xeriscapic Plants ... Dealing with Drought." Details call the center at 783-6455


July 26


On July 26, seniors will be taking a trip to Boomtown north of Reno. Transportation is provided. Buses will be leaving from Smith's parking lot at 8 a.m. and return around 4:30 p.m. Sign-up sheets were placed in Douglas County Senior Center for this trip. July 27


The Douglas County Senior Center is planning a bus trip to Sparks Farmer's Market in Sparks. The bus cost is $4 per person and leaves from the senior center at 4 p.m., returning around 8:30 p.m. The night's theme is "Rockin' Good Time ... Hot August Nights Marker." July 27


Dr. Harjes will be doing hearing and hearing aid checks at the Douglas County Senior Center on July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Must sign up with the senior center office for an appointment. Details: 783-6455


July 29


Members of Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club at the Douglas County Senior Center will be having an Ice Cream Social and Bingo on July 29. The event starts at 2 p.m. at the center. The ice cream will be homemade, there will be ten bingo games with cash prizes and end with a short general meeting of YAH. The event is free to all members of Young at Heart. Membership dues are $3 so if you would like to be a member and participate in all the fun events, come to the gift shop and pay your dues.


"Reservations are not required for the Ice Cream Social, but dues are," said YAH president Paul Lockwood.
