New Arby's opens in Minden

Out with the old and in with the new. A new Arby's restaurant opened June 28 in Minden to take the place of the old Gardnerville franchise.

Owner Dennis McDuffee said the location next to the Arco AM-PM Mini Market in Minden is the key to the new restaurant's success.

"We've hit records every day and every day we've outdone the day before," McDuffee said. "We did more in one hour in Minden than we've done all day in the Gardnerville location."

McDuffee said the location is superior because people do a one-stop shop to get gas at the AM-PM and a bite to eat at Arby's.

He plans to develop the whole corner of highways 88 and 395. A Bully's Sports Bar is going up next door to Arby's.

Arby's General Manager Tena Yarbrough moved over from the old store with her crew.

"We love our new store," Yarbrough said. "It's pretty elegant for a fast-food restaurant."

Yarbrough said Arby's continues to have the deli beef, chicken, ham and turkey sandwiches the restaurant is known for but that salads have become more popular.

"Now we have the menu on display so people can see what we have," she said. "We have pictures of the salads now and we've sold a lot since we've opened here.

"We have new kids' meals and offer a fruit bowl instead of french fries if you're trying to do healthy things."

The old Arby's, next to Raley's in Gardnerville since 1983, will be demolished within 60 days for future expansion of the supermarket.

A grand opening event for the new Arby's is from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday. Food and drink specials are featured all day long.
