Plane hits rough patch in fog

The pilot of a twin-engine plane and his passenger were uninjured Friday in a rough landing in the fog at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

The airplane, a 1971 Piper, landed 20 feet off the runway approximately 1,000 feet at the south end at 8:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Tom Mezzetta.

Pilot Gregory Felton, 42, and passenger David Winter, 43, both of Stateline, told emergency personnel they didn't need medical attention.

Felton told deputies after the main wheels made contact with the runway, the plane started to slide to the left. The left wheel made contact with a snow bank.

He said the plane made a left turn onto the snow and dirt where it came to a stop.

The runway was closed while the incident was investigated.
