Douglas freshmen top McQueen

The Douglas freshman girls' basketball team finished its preseason schedule on a high note. After dropping a close contest to Spanish Springs 34-31 Tuesday, the Lady Tigers won back-to-back contests against Whittell's junior varsity squad and and McQueen's freshman girls.

The Tigers battled back in the second half of the Spanish Springs game but came up short in the end.

Danyelle Heidt led the scoring with eight, and Edna Meza and Taryn Willams each scored six.

Thursday, the Tigers beat the Lady Warriors 46-17 behind the scoring efforts of Hedit (10 points), Meza (eight), Melissa Brown (six) and Williams (six).

In the final preseason tuneup, Douglas topped McQueen 39-16. Williams led the team with 10 points, followed by Heidt with nine and Ally Freitas with eight.

Douglas is now 10-2 overall and 1-0 in Sierra League play.
