Minden grocery store to open Jan. 26

Minden will have its own market when Sierra Nevada Trading Co. opens in Minden Village Jan. 26.

The goal to open the new 21,000-square-foot grocery store on the corner of Lucerne Street and Ironwood Drive is going as planned.

"At this point in time, we're dead on schedule," said store manager Pam McClain. "The store is a manageable size - user-friendly. Customers will love it."

The store features a full-service deli, a seafood and butcher counter, bakery, dairy, produce displayed in "fresh orchard bins," a shipping service and florist.

"This will be a full-service market on a much more friendly scale than Wal-Mart. The whole idea is to have high quality foods," said contractor Jeff Shaheen of Shaheen Beauchamp Builders. "I'm very pleased to be part of this project."

Kevin Coleman of K&S Properties is partners in the Sierra Nevada Trading Co. with Jim Lira and Bill Dutra. Coleman said that a store grand opening will come at a later date.

"(Jan. 26) will be a soft opening to get everyone's comments and to get things rolling," said Coleman. "Later we'll have a big joint opening with other businesses in Minden Village. It will be a major function."

There is no set time for opening day and no set store hours as of yet.

"I'll be happy when the doors open and the people say 'Wow!' The store is a cut above and the town deserves it," said Coleman. "It's time the town gets what it deserves."

"We're grateful that the town accepts what we're doing because it's a great team effort. Everyone's participating in what's happening," he said. "This is all for the community."
