The Douglas boys' basketball team lost to a strong Amador Valley team 70-45 at the Rancho Cordova Tournament near Sacramento Friday, taking fourth place in the tournament.
Douglas trailed 27-17 at halftime.
"We played a good first half," Douglas coach Rob Streeter said.
Even though Amador was able to pull away in the second half, Streeter said his team played better in the second half against Amador than it did the night before in a 73-46 loss to Rancho Cordova.
"I was happier with our effort in the second half," Streeter said. "I was happier with the way we played. Amador was a good squad."
Keith Olson was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 13 points against Amador.
The game concluded Douglas' non-league slate. The Tigers clawed through with a 6-8 record, including winning its Sierra League opener against Damonte Ranch.
Douglas has only been home for three of its 14 games, but will host North Valleys Jan. 10 and host Reno Jan. 13.
The Tigers faced a tough non-league schedule, that included a nationally-ranked team and several of the top programs in California. Douglas showed marked improvement game-to-game, particularly against the full-court press.
Douglas is 3-0 against Northern Nevada teams.
Keith Olson had been the team's most consistent scorer, but sophomore Jeff Nady has been a pleasant surprise as a solid scoring threat, and sophomore Kevin Emm has enjoyed several breakout games from outside the 3-point line.
As a whole, the team's backcourt has been steadily figuring out the new offense installed by first-year coach Streeter, and has at times shown flashes of sheer brillance in the transition game.
The team is ranked No. 6 in the North by the Sierra Nevada Sport Media polls and gets a 10-day layoff before its next game.
