Hearing in stabbing delayed

An agitated Judge Richard Glasson chastised attorneys in the case of accused stabber Justin Ready for not being prepared for a Feb. 10 preliminary hearing.

"I intend to go forward today," Glasson said in Tahoe Township Justice Court.

But instead of conducting a preliminary hearing where witnesses are called to testify and determine whether enough evidence exists that Ready stabbed two Harrah's Lake Tahoe security guards in November, the hearing was moved to March 7.

Deputy District Attorney Dina Salvucci filed a motion to continue on Feb. 7 but the motion was denied by Glasson.

Salvucci said one of the security guards who was stabbed underwent cancer surgery before the hearing and could not participate because he was still recuperating.

Ready, 24, remains in custody at Douglas County Jail at $200,000 bail on two counts of attempted murder.

He was seated in court next to his attorney, Dirk Manoukian, who said he still needed to obtain copies of videotapes and review them.

"I am unprepared to go forward," Manoukian said.

With both Manoukian and prosecutor Salvucci in court without witnesses, Glasson was irked with the fruitlessness of the court session that was scheduled specially for Friday.

"So we couldn't even get in an hour's worth of (a) preliminary hearing today?" he said.

Manoukian previously stated his client acted in self-defense when he allegedly stabbed two security guards, Ahmet Albayrha and David Gontang, once in the neck with a small knife during a scuffle outside of Altitude nightclub on Nov. 27.

Ready turned himself in to Douglas County sheriff's authorities on Dec. 7 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of two counts of attempted murder.
