Lady Tigers coast into playoffs

All the Douglas girls' basketball team needed heading into Friday night's game against Wooster was a win to make the playoffs.

They got that and a little more.

The Lady Tiger blasted Wooster 58-34 in Douglas' home finale to claim the No. 3 seed in the Sierra League heading into the playoffs.

Douglas will next take on the High Desert No. 2 seed Reed, Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Reed.

The Tigers began Friday's game with its four seniors - Monica Knight, Felicia Imelli, Autumn Burtt and Katie Ezell - on the floor. Knight, Imelli and Burtt contributed 11 points right off the bat as Douglas went on an early 14-2 run.

Douglas then got a decent glimpse of the future as coach Werner Christen pulled all of his starters off and put underclassmen Nicole Didero, Lisa Christen, Kristin Wyatt and Jessica Waggoner on. The quintet ran up another 7-2 run to close out the first quarter, getting the Tigers well on their way to the win.

Knight finished the game with 18 points, Burtt had 10, Waggoner added eight, Wyatt had six, and Ezell, Kaela Horse, Bridget Maestretti, Didero and Imelli each finished with three.

The Tigers completed the regular season winning nine of its last 11 games to finish 13-16 overall and 9-5 in league play.
