East Fork Fire Cadets make community safer

East Fork Fire and Paramedic District Cadets recently conducted a routine life safety inspection training at the Silver Strike Lanes. Although this was just a training inspection, cadets inspected the facility for fire and life safety concerns under the direction of East Fork Fire Inspector Marilie Smith.

Routine fire and life safety inspections have not been done in Douglas County for more than ten years. This changed about 18 months ago when the district hired an additional fire inspector to perform such inspections. These inspections are beneficial in identifying fire and life safety concerns to the public, the business owner and fire department staff who may respond during an emergency.

This training inspection provided East Fork Fire Cadets with a great opportunity to explore other career opportunities in the fire service besides the traditional firefighting and emergency medical service careers. The East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts would like to extend their appreciation to Silver Strike Lanes in welcoming the East Fork Cadets and providing them with this valuable training opportunity.

The East Fork Fire Cadet program is a long-range recruitment program designed to introduce interested young people between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age to firefighting and the emergency medical service careers.

The program also provides a valuable service to both the community and the Fire and Paramedic Districts.
