Unity World Day of Prayer celebrated

Hundreds of thousands of people across the globe will join Silent Unity, an international and trans-denominational prayer ministry, and Unity churches around the world in a sacred partnership of prayer - the 13th annual Unity World Day of Prayer. This sacred event is held annually on the second Thursday - Sept. 14 this year.

Unity World Day of Prayer is an interfaith event, open to people of all faiths and all walks of life. Its purpose is to unite as many people as possible in prayer for one another and transform the world through prayer. You can learn more about World Day of Prayer, submit prayer lists and listen to a special affirmation at www.worlddayofprayer.org. This year the special prayer that is being used to help focus people's minds and hearts is: "United heart to heart in prayer, we create a world of radiant life, overflowing abundance, and lasting peace as we awaken to the power of God within."

Unity Church of Today will host the event locally, along with many of the approximately 900 Unity churches and study groups around the world hosting World Day of Prayer interfaith events. The public is invited to their office/chapel located at 1662 Highway 395, Suite 103, in Minden, anytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., on Thursday, to pray silently, or to join in prayer from wherever you are anytime during the day. Contact the church office for the affirmation prayer slips or more information, 782-4429.

"In Unity, we know that prayer works. We host World Day of Prayer as an opportunity for humankind to experience a transformation of health, abundance, and love on a global level," said Rev. Larry Schneider. "Our hope is that people will decide to make this sacred connection with God and the world by joining prayer partners around the world, united in positive attitude, understanding, and love."

Rev. Schneider invites other denominations to join in the prayer vigil that day.

First held in 1994, this spiritual event is organized by Unity at Unity Village, Mo., near Kansas City. Hundreds of thousands of people have participated as prayer partners and millions more have been the focus of prayer during World Day of Prayer vigils. Each year the names of more than one million people are prayerfully acknowledged during the vigil.

Founded in 1889, Unity welcomes all people and helps people of all faiths apply positive spiritual principles in their daily lives through several channels. Unity publishes Daily Word, a monthly magazine of inspirational messages distributed to almost one million people in more than 180 countries. Silent Unity, maintains a 24-hour prayer vigil every day of the year and receives two million letters, telephone calls, and Internet requests for prayer annually.
