Genoa fire expected out by 8 p.m.

Firefighters completed a line around a 16-acre fire about ¾ of the way upslope from Genoa in Water Canyon overnight and expect to have the fire out by 8 p.m. tonight.

Helicopters will continue to aid the four hand crews on the mountain in their fight to extinguish the blaze started by Friday night's lightning storm.

Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators Information Officer Franklin Pemberton said the hand crews will be working to reinforce the line and begin mopping up the fire.

Foothill Road is closed south of Genoa while the four helicopters involved in bucket operations are based on the historic Ranch One.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze which is on U.S. Forest Service land. A unified command between the U.S. Forest Service, Nevada Division of Forestry and the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts holds jurisdiction on the fire.

No structures have been threatened by the fire and there have been no evacuations.

The National Weather Service is predicting mostly sunny skies with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms tonight. The high temperature in Minden is forecast to be 87 degrees.
