The concert and jazz bands all received superior ratings and were the highest scoring bands of the day at the Nevada Educators Band Festival in Fallon on March 24.

The Madrigals were selected to give an encore performance at the Northern Nevada Choral Festival on March 27 because of their superior rating.

Eight Douglas choral students participated in the Nevada All-State Choir in Reno on March 29-April 1.

The students were: Nick Granger, Andrew Martin, Michaelyn McElhiney, Rachael McElhiney, Jessica Reynolds, Matt Simmons, Bobby Stiehler and Alice Sady from Carson Valley Middle School.

Because of their success, the bands and choirs participate in two additional out-of-state festivals. The choral group and jazz band perform at a national competition in Vallejo, Calif., on May 12. The band goes to the Encinal Band Festival for concert and marching band competitions May 20.

In order to raise funds for these trips, the music students are asking to be adopted for $25 each or $100 for a section. For more information, contact any music student, visit the music department's Web site at douglasmusic.net or call Bill Zabelsky at 782-5136, ex 1102.
