Despina Pavlakis

A Trisagion service for Despina Pavlakis, 91, a Nevada resident for the past 76 years, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Walton's Funeral Home, 875 W. Second St., Reno.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church in Reno.

Mrs. Pavlakis died May 18, 2005, at her home in Carson City. She was born Aug. 5, 1913, in Makri, Asia Minor (Greece), to Mike and Harriet Damianou.

She met and married James Pavlakis in Greece in 1929, and they moved to and settled in Ely that year. They operated the Royal Bakery in Ely for many years.

She moved to Reno in 1996 and to Carson City in 2002.

She was a member of St. Alexio's Greek Orthodox Church in Ely and St. Anthony's Green Orthodox Church in Reno.

She was a member of the Philoptochos Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and daughter Nina Jukich in 1985.

Among her survivors are her son Paul and daughter and son-in-law Evangeline and Dan Grubic, all of Reno; daughter and son-in-law Harriet and Chris Christie of Modesto, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Karen Pavlakis of Carson City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews in Greece and the United States.

Private entombment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno with Father George Bratiotis officiating.

Walton's Funeral Home, Reno, is in charge of arrangements.
